A beautiful cardboard box with silver embossing, and two of the most touching winter stories in it: my "Snow Queen" and "Gifts of the Magi" by artist Natalia Travina.
"The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen.
Once in a quiet cozy house where the named brother and sister lived, misfortune came: the boy's heart was pierced by a fragment of a magic mirror. The Snow Queen takes Kay to her kingdom. Gerda passes half the world in search of her brother: she meets a young prince and princess, finds herself in the lair of forest robbers, sneaks into the Snow Queen's castle. The girl will have many obstacles on the way, but Gerda's faithful heart will overcome all all of them.
It is one of Andersen's longest and most popular fairy tales. I have long wanted to illustrate it, so I immediately grabbed the offer from the publisher. It was drawn quickly, in one breath.
"Gifts of the Magi" by O.Henry.
This Christmas story begins as a touching love story: the main character does not have enough coins to buy a gift worthy of her love for her husband. But O. Henry would not have been O. Henry if he had not found a way out for her and made us smile through our tears.
The illustrations by Natalia Travina are made in watercolor technique, in a realistic manner, which, in my opinion, is very suitable for the style of a literary work.
